For ensuring women safety on roads by promoting women drivers the District Magistrate office today invited women Civil Defence Volunteers & from Gender Resource Center in East Delhi. The main objective is to empower women by making them financially independent by providing them loan for purchase of vehicle for running taxi under the Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme ( PMEGP). About 70 women volunteers participated in the programme who took keen interest in the initiative. The official from khadi & Village Industries Commission (KVIC) explained the modalities for obtaining financial assistance under PMEGP. The Bank Manager briefed on various aspects & benefits of disbursement & repayment of loan under PMEGP. The official from  Institute of Driving Training & Research (IDTR) assured to impart free driving skills to interested women volunteers. Transport officials from MLO office assured to issue hassle free driving license to eligible women applicants.The main aim is to motivate women volunteers to join this trade sector where a female passenger will feel safe in a cab driven by women taxi driver.Women safety issues were also discussed and trouble spots from women safety point of view were identified for making improvement in coordination with police, EDMC, PWD and other land owning agency.
