New Delhi, 5th December, 2014 The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report that 50 bonded labourers were rescued from a brick kiln at Sinhar village area in District Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh on the 2nd December, 2014. Most of these workers were from Bihar. The kiln owner failed to provide Minimum Wage Register during the raid carried by the Officers of the Labour Department. Reportedly, the Additional Labour Commissioner, Pankaj Singh Rana said that the number of bonded labourers could be more. The Commission has issued notices to the District Magistrate of Mirzapur, Labour Commissioner, Government of UP and Labour Commissioner, Government of Bihar calling for the reports within two weeks about the number of labourers rescued, monetary relief and rehabilitation provided to them. |
