The finals of Inter-CPOs’ Debate
competition, 2014 organized under the aegis of NHRC was held today at CRPF
Institute –Shaurya, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi.

Balakrishnan, Chairman, National Human Rights Commission was the Chief Guest/Chief
of Jury on this occasion. Ms Kanwaljeet Deol, DG NHRC, Sh Gopal
Sharma, Former DG J & K and SSB and Prof Anuradha Chinoy of JNU were
the other jury members of the finals of
this debate. Sh P.V.K. Reddy, Addl.DG
(HQ), CRPF, Sh V.S.Yadav, IG RAF and
Smt. Malini Aggarwal , DIG RAF were
also present on this occasion.
The topic of the debate, There can be no security without Human Rights, was hotly contested by the contestants and an impressive show of talent and oratory was witnessed. Constable Amarendra Kumar of BSF won the first prize in Hindi debate while SI/Mahila Irina Pego of CISF lifted the first prize in English debate. Head Constable Rajeshwari Vijay of CRPF won the second prize in the Hindi debate. The Running trophy was lifted by CISF. Speaking on the occasion, Hon’ble Justice K.G. Balakrishnan congratulated all the participants and winners. He also lauded CRPF for its role in anti-terrorist operations and said that NHRC is very strict in dealing with terrorism and that terrorist activities have to be dealt with seriously. He was of the view that ‘not the act but the attitude’ will bear fruit in the long run. He said that real winner of this debate competition is policing and that the participants will leave as better informed officers.
