The Special Judge, CBI, Guwahati (Assam) has convicted Shri B.R.Attri, the then DE, OFC, DOT, Guwahati (now DE, MTNL, Delhi); Sri Mrinmoy Bhuiyan, the then JTO, OFC, DOT Dimapur (now SDE, BSNL, Guwahati); Shri M.L.Sharma, the then DE, OFC, DOT, Guwahati & Sri Prafulla Borah, Contractorof Jayanagar, Guwahati and sentenced them to undergo two years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs. 10,000/- each U/s 120B, 420 IPC and Section 13(2) R/w 13(1) (d) of Prevention of Corruption Act., 1988

The case was registered on 31.07.2001. After completion of investigation, CBI filed a chargesheet on 25.11.2004 against the said accused persons on the allegations that they cheated the department of Telecom (now BSNL) by showing / claiming different nature of soil than actual soil, RCC protections and submitted bogus & fabricated bills to the tune of Rs. 4,03,142/-(approx) in the matter of Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) trenching & laying works in Sub Sections 22, 24, 26 & 27 of Jorhat-Dimapur-Kohima rout on National Highway No. 39 in the year 1995-2000.
