NHRC issued notices to DM and CMO, Chamba, Himachal Pradesh on alleged shortcomings in the healthcare facilities in the district

The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report alleging that the benefits of National Rural Health Mission are not reaching to the remote areas of district Chamba, Himachal Pradesh. Health workers have not been deployed in the 20 Health Centers in the district leading to deaths of pregnant women and newborn children. Lack of awareness about the healthcare and related schemes is also adding up the gravity of the situation. The Commission has observed that the contents of the press report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human right to life. Accordingly, notices have been issued to the District Magistrate and the Chief Medical Officer, Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, calling for reports within four weeks. |
